Here in the Mid-Missouri area we know people love their pets. Many of the fences we build here around the Jefferson City area are built to accommodate the family pet along with maintaining an awesome aesthetic. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when having your fence built to accommodate you pets! REMOVE AIDS TO ESCAPE: Your pet is smart and it will do what it has to in order to get to you! This being said it is always good to remove all things that may aid your dog in hoping over your fence system. Garbage cans, Firewood piles, and even a Tree with a low limb can be used easily to prop ones self up and over. This is dangerous as your pet could fall from the height not knowing how big the drop is or worse possibly snagging their collar from the top. RESTRICT YOUR DOG'S VIEW: It is very common that a Dog will attempt to chase anything it may see suitable for chasing. Reed fencing comes in rolls and is relatively inexpensive. You can attach this to the inside of your existing fence to cut down visibility. Plastic slats can also be woven through chain link that can help close visibility. If you would rather have organics? Many pet owners plant vines outside of fencing to block vision. Be cautious introducing your pet to this method prior though, as they may want to try and eat the plants. STOP FENCE TUNNELERS: Dogs dig, we all know this. A great solution to this is to create a L-footer along the base of the fence. Take a roll of heavy garden fence or hardware cloth (wire fencing with wire squares) and unroll it alongside your fence. Bend the fencing so a foot of it can be attached to your fence and the remainder will lie flat on the ground at the base of the fence extending into your yard. The base of the L can be staked to the ground to keep it from coming up. Be sure to mark it to keep yourself from mowing it later on! STOP FENCE JUMPERS: If your pups a jumper? We suggest making the L-footer but on top of your fence. This should keep them from clearing the top. (Depending on their ability to jump) COYOTE ROLLERS STOP CLIMBERS: Coyote rollers are designed to slow down or stop coyotes from clibing into your yard and are just as effective to stop a dog from climbing out. There are commercial coyote roller set ups but if you are handy you can create one. DOUBLE GATES PREVENT DASHING: If you have a problem with your pup dashing as soon as your gate is opened. A great way to defend this is simple getting a double gate. You go through one gate, you close the other behind you and go through the second. A couple sections of fencing and a new gate are all it takes to create a double gate, you can either build it inside the present fence or outside. PUT A LOCK ON THE GATES: Locks on gates are a great addition and make it easy to lock a path behind you. Obviously, keys to the lock need to be easily accessible in cast of emergency but you will have to determine who needs keys and where they should be stored. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, MAKE YOUR YARD A BEAUTIFUL REFUGE!! Really, you should make your yard, your dogs refuge not his prison. Help him out! Always be sure to have things such as toys or things to keep your dogs mind busy while in the yard. He or She will become very comfortable with the area and associate it as their own place of comfort. Its a great habit to spend a lot of time with your dog in the yard so that they may feel at ease and not in need of escape! Play with him, groom him, do some training, and sometimes just lie in the grass with him. We assure you they will welcome it with open paws!!

So, you have found the perfect fence permitted in your neighborhood. However, as it is on your property there are some things you should keep in mind before you go forward with the installation. The finished side should face toward your neighbor. Not only is this more polite, but it is the standard. If it is installed the opposite way it will look backwards and improperly installed. There are fences that look identical on both sides that are called "good neighbor fences" for this reason. Proper fence maintanence is key to having your fence last in beauty and integrity! Wood fences tend to require more maintenance than vinyl or aluminum if you are concerned with timely maintence. 1) When is the best time to have a fence installed? (winter, spring, etc.) Spring, Summer, Fall - As long as it is above 40 degrees. 2) Once someone contacts you, what is the next step? (what happens at a bid) - We set up a time and day to measure their property and discuss different types of fencing they may interested in. I bring brochures and sometimes have samples with me too. After that, we will email them the bid on paper. 3) After a bid has taken place and the contact decides to go with Hoback Fence, how long does the process take? It really depends on how busy we are. Usually it takes us about 2 weeks. 4) After the fence is in place, is there a time frame that the client must wait to do any yard work around the fence? We don't like anyone touching the fence for at least a week so the concrete can settle up. But if the posts will have lots of landscaping done around them, I would probably wait 2 weeks to be safe. They can still mow and weed eat like normal. 5) Who does the digrite? We do the digrite so the customer won't have to mess with contacting them and so we have record that the digrite was complete. It's the law!

If you have a leaning fence and think you can fix it by simply straightening it, don't. Leaning of a fence is an indication that the fence post is weakening. After the leaning begins, troubles such as warped or broken fence boards will follow.

Follow the following steps to prepare your lawn for Spring: Rake leaves and dead grass. Pick up broken limbs and trash around the yard. Loosen up the soil surface with a rake and reseed brown or bare spots. If your lawn looks dry, water it. If you have had a lot of water and warm temperatures, cut your grass now.
